T
he night Carole and John Ferguson
moved into their San Francisco,
US, home, they wandered into a
local restaurant for dinner and
started chatting with the bartender.
The next thing they knew, a cake appeared with
the words “Welcome to the neighbourhood!”
squigglcd on the plate. “We suddenly felt like we
were part of the scene,” laughs Carole, in her
delightful Tennessee drawl.
Moving cross-country to be closer to
grandchildren—and making the oft-debated
decision to start from scratch in furnishing their
1,700-square-foot condominium—was a “bold
step at our age,” declares Carole. “But we can’t
believe how much we love it.”
FAMILY FUN
Carole and John Ferguson’s
move gave them more time
with their grand kids,
Carole, Mary Harriet,
Edward, and Maddy,
right,
and their daughter, Ashley.
